Crowned with Glory and Honour
Edinburgh Festival Fringe 6th-10th August 2019
By Jerry Averill
What is the value of a human life?
Based on true stories and interviews, Crowned with Glory and Honour is an original play exploring the value of human life and how we, as cultures, societies and individuals determine who is valuable and who is disposable. Characters and situations in the play are widely diverse: a concentration camp survivor, a young man with Down's Syndrome, a pastor told as a child that he was almost aborted, a teenager wanting to keep her baby and others whose stories illustrate the emotional cost surrounding the decision made.
“When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honour.” Psalm 8:3-5 (NIV)
